Suitcases and bedding were amongst the 25 bags of litter a group of friends helped to pick from a park.

The Friends of Canons Park were delighted to welcome more than 20 volunteers of all ages at their second litter pick of the year, on the morning of Sunday, September 27.

The volunteers worked for two hours, with a break for refreshments, and covered every area of the park to net around 25 bags of litter in addition to various odd items of bedding, rucksacks, builders' rubbish and even an old suitcase.

Chairman of the friends group Ian New was so impressed with the turnout and enthusiasm of the volunteers that he has pledged to schedule in at least two litter picks a year in the park to help park keeper Derek Roy MBE focus his attention on gardening and other duties.

The next litter pick will be in March or April next year.
