WALKERS and fundraisers are being encouraged to sign up to a top secret mission for charity.

Taking some time out from his work as undercover agent 007, Councillor James Bond will be taking part in the first ever Hospice to Hospice Walk from St Luke’s in Kenton Road to Michael Sobell in Northwood.

The Harrow councillor is to walk the eight-mile journey to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of his mother Margaret who spent her final days at Michael Sobell Hospice.

Mr Bond said: “I can’t thank Michael Sobell Hospice enough for the kindness they gave, not only to my mother but to my brother and father at such a sad time.

“I also want to acknowledge and support St Luke’s Hospice, who gives so much care and devotion to the terminally ill and their friends and family.

“One of my closest friends, Charlie Harris, the former Harrow Times editor, was cared for by St Luke’s up to his death in January 2014.”

To help launch the walk, Mr Bond was joined by Robin Webb, chief executives of St Luke’s and Lindsey Fealey from Michael Sobell Hospice, where they dressed up as characters from the films starring the fictional secret agent.

Mr Webb added: “It’s fantastic that we can share the costs of running the event and actually divide the proceeds between us.

“This means we’ve got added profile and it’s an opportunity for our teams to work together, which I think is the start of something new and exciting going forward.”

Registration for the event is free and participants are asked to raise as much as they can for their local hospices.

The walk is suitable for all ages and starts at 10.30am on Saturday, November 28.
