An unemployed builder who was caught dumping waste on CCTV footage has been fined.

George Trandafir, of Clydesdale Avenue, Stanmore, put six bags of waste from his home into residential bins belonging to Canons Court, Edgware.

The 41-year-old was ordered to pay £885 at Willesden Magistrates' Court.

Following complaitns from residents, Harrow council’s environmental officers discovered the bags of waste and paperwork which was traced back to Mr Trandafir.

He claimed he had paid an “unknown person” £40 to take his waste away and that one of his friends agreed to allow him to dump it outside Canons Court.

But once presented with CCTV footage he admitted he was responsible for leaving the waste there.

Councillor Graham Henson, portfolio holder for environment, crime and community safety, said: “Thanks to vigilant local residents and council officers this man has now been punished for illegally dumping waste. Despite having his own rubbish bin this man thought he could select another bin in the borough to dump his six bags of rubbish.

“The detective work of council officers led them straight back to this man and he has now been hit with a hefty fine.

“Like you we want to see a green and pleasant Harrow and by working together we can achieve this. If you see a fly-tip on public land please report these to us and they will be cleared. This case should serve as a lesson to people across Harrow that if you dump rubbish illegally you will be found and made to pay for your actions.”
