NANDOS vouchers and a framed print of Pinner high street are just some of the prizes that could be won at a charity quiz night.

Zoe Neale, of Dorchester Avenue, North Harrow, has had a busy summer holidays writing to businesses and creating posters as she prepares for a fundraiser next month in aid of one of her closest friends.

The 16-year-old, along with school friend Alex Hastings, has spent months organising a charity quiz night and raffle to help one of their best friends Helena Bark, who has been given weeks left to live.

Helena was first diagnosed with cancer in September 2013 and was kept at University College Hospital, London, with her dad Trefor for treatment for several months – leaving mum Rosie at home to look after her three younger brothers.

She went into remission last June, receiving a bone marrow transplant in July, but has now found out that the cancer has returned.

Friends and family members rallied round the family, raising thousands of pounds to bring Helena home.

Zoe Neale, who organised a bake sale at her school to help add to the funds, said: “Her family didn’t have a lot anyway so we all thought someone should be doing something to help.”

Her mum, Roslyn Neale, added: “Everything adds up. Even train tickets to take Helena to the zoo cost money and when you’re in hospital you end up eating a lot of convenience foods, that aren’t cheap.”

As Helena is now back in hospital with her condition deteriorating rapidly, the friends hope to raise even more money for the family to help make her last few weeks memorable.

Zoe added: “We just wanted to do something for Helena and her family, because why not.

“It’s something fun for everyone to do and if it’s raising money at the same time then that’s great.

“It’s only £5 so it’s not much to fork out, and it’s all going straight to Helena’s charity.”

The quiz night will be held at Elmfield Church Hall, in Imperial Drive, the church all three schoolgirls attend, on Saturday, September 19 from 7pm.

So far three teams, of a maximum of eight, have bought tickets but the girls still have another 80 to 100 to sell on.

Mrs Neale, who has a history in fundraiser for charity, added: “I’m very proud of Zoe for this, although I was proud of her already.”

Businesses, from Harrow and beyond, have donated a number of top prizes for a raffle on the night, including a £30 Yo Sushi voucher, two tickets for Kew Gardens and several boxes of chocolates.

Tesco in Harrow, along with donating a £50 voucher for the raffle, will also be supplying all nibbles and soft drinks for the night.
