An internet sensation from Stanmore has prompted a theme park to set up 'dad dancing' zones at a music festival.

Simon Jones, 41, became an internet sensation after being captured on video dancing during a gig by pop band The Vamps on Saturday, July 11 at Thorpe Park.

After the video was viewed more than five million times on YouTube, theme park bosses invited him back after “viewers loved his fearless dance like nobody’s watching attitude”.

Pop star Britney Spears even shared the video on YouTube.

The father-of-one was asked to dance during a Little Mix concert on Friday, July 17 and he has created the 'ultimate guide to dad dancing', which has also been uploaded onto YouTube.

He said: “I was gobsmacked at the response.

“I try to have fun when I dance and love that I have been given the opportunity to make people smile, and give them some tips on how to enjoy themselves with my moves too.

“I think the pens at Island Beats are a great idea – we have got our own VIP area to really let loose in now.”

In his latest video, Mr Jones shows viewers his top five dad dancing moves. This includes the 'clap and shake', where he insists “it is all in the hips”, and 'the running man', which is “always a great party starter”, according to the 41-year-old.

At No. 3 in his list is 'the robot' and at numbers four and five, despite being “very advanced moves”, the Stanmore man demonstrates 'the moonwalk' and 'the spin'.

'Dad dancing' areas have been set up at the festival and organisers said these pens will “allow flamboyant dads – and mums – maximum arm and leg space to show off their moves in a controlled environment”.

The festival, which is being held at the theme park’s resort in Chertsey, Surrey, is set to continue until Sunday, August 30.

With performances from Rixton, Professor Green, Rizzle Kicks and Union J still to come, organisers are “encouraging all kinds of dance moves”, but they have banned the popular air guitar.

Thorpe Park Resort’s head of park operations Andrew Walker said: “We loved the reaction the footage of Simon got and were thrilled when he agreed to come back.

“Our special dad dancing areas will be especially wide to accommodate flailing arms and classic dance moves giving everyone the space they need to smash it on the dancefloor.

“We encourage all kinds of dance moves, however, we are completely banning air guitars – we appreciate that dads will want to dance, but we have to draw the line somewhere.”

A study carried out by Thorpe Park revealed parents dancing was the worst thing parents could do to embarrass their children.
