Around 300 flowers have been donated after dozens of plants were stolen from flowerbeds created by a community group.

Members of the Honeybun Tenants’ and Residents’ Association had spent weeks preparing the patch on the junction at Lascelles Avenue and Bessborough Road, Harrow.

Following the discovery that the hard work of the community group had been undone, Harrow council has donated hundreds of flowers to residents in the estate.

Cllr Glen Hearnden and council officers visited committee member Marjorie Bredenkampf who accepted the donation on behalf of the Residents’ Association and the flowers will be planted next week by members.

The group had been preparing for this month’s Harrow in Bloom competition as they reformed the site that had been neglected for years before the association took it over.

Cllr Hearnden, who at the time described the theft as ‘horrifying’ revealed his delight at the support from the local authority.

He said: “I am pleased that we have been able to help residents of this estate following the appalling state the garden was left in by selfish and inconsiderate individuals.

“I am glad that the council has been able to support the community in their work to improve the estate that they live in. I look forward to seeing the flowerbed brought back to life when completed and hope that residents and the community can once again enjoy their gardens.”

Chairman Terry Fisch labelled the act ‘selfish’ at the time and still hopes the group can enter and succeed in the Harrow in Bloom competition which starts on July 29.
