Schoolchildren climbed their way to fitness as they took on dancing and ball games during their sports week.

Pupils from Woodlands Special Needs School, in Edgware, have spent the past week bouncing balls and shimmying up walls as part of its national sports week.

The goal was for each pupil to achieve five hours of sport in a week and each class has had a chart to fill in every time they performed a sporting activity.

More than 25 different activities were on offer during the week including rhythmic gymnastics, bhangra dancing, seated volleyball and an inflatable climbing wall.

Joining in the fun was ten-year-old pupil Savannah Dolor, who has shot to fame in Wealdstone.

Headteacher John Feltham said: “Sport in all forms is a core area of learning for the children of Woodlands.

“Not only is it vital for their physical development but it actively supports so many other key areas of learning and in particular their communication skills.

“It allows us to promote social learning through team play and competition, it promotes social inclusion by joining in with others from both in and outside of school and above all sports week at Woodlands is pure fun.”

The week will come to an end this Friday afternoon in an award ceremony where all the children will receive a medal.
