Labour has held Harrow West by a majority of a little over 2,000.

Candidate Gareth Thomas held on to the constituency of Harrow West, receiving 21,885 votes.

Tory Hannah David took 19,677 votes, while UKIP candidate Mohammad Ali Bhatti received 2,047.

Lib Dem’s Chris Noyce polled 1,567 votes, independent candidate Kailash Trivedi 117 and the Green Party’s Rowan Langley 1,310.

Mr Thomas said: “I would also like to say a huge thank you to the people of Harrow West.

“It is the seat I grew up in, the seat I have many friends in and my family still live in.

“It is a huge honour to have this seat once again.”

Mr Thomas credited Hannah David and the Conservative team for a tough campaign to take the seat.

Unlike Harrow East, the constituency of Harrow West has traditionally been held by the Conservatives – but Mr Thomas took the seat in 1997 with a 2.3 per cent majority.

He has taken on a different Tory candidate at each election since, with Hannah David picking up the baton in 2015.

Although the Tories announced the seat as one of their targets, a BBC exit poll predicted the seat would remain under Labour control.
