A man will be joined by a team of close friends as he attempts an 84-mile walk in memory of his wife.

Paul O’Connell, of Kingsbury, will trek 84 miles from Carlisle to Newcastle over just three days with seven friends and members of his family.

Mr O'Connell lost his wife Margaret, 52, in December 2013 after she took her own life.

He said: “Margaret was first and foremost an amazing wife, and a wonderful mother to Chloe and Oliver.

“She was much loved by her family and friends, who were heartbroken when she took her own life.”

Paul, 52, will be joined by his brother-in-law Joe Harte, and friends Paul Goff, Chris Dillon, Declan Shortiss, Peter Gartlan, Danny Riordan and Andy Cracknell.

Declan’s brother Paul Shortiss and Colin O’Shea complete the team as support vehicle drivers.

The team hope to raise at least £5,000 for MIND in Harrow, a mental health charity that supported the family.

Mr O’Connell added: “She suffered greatly throughout her life with depression from an early age, but when Margaret was in good health she was the life and soul of the party.

“She would be very happy to know that this walk will help with the awareness of mental health issues.

“Mind helped me through a bad time. I don’t know how I would have coped without them. If this can help one person it will make this event a great achievement.”

So far, the team have already raised £4,450. To add a donation, visit https://www.justgiving.com/Chloe-O-Connell
