Balloons, maypole dancing and live music will be among attractions this Bank Holiday weekend.

Hundreds of people across North London will celebrate the traditional May Day festival.

The North London Times and Independent Series take a look at what’s on offer over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Haringey:
The Antwerp Arms, in Church Road, Tottenham, will open its doors this weekend for the Bank Holiday weekend.

A Bank Holiday barbeque and grand balloon race will take place on Monday, May 4 from 12 to 5pm, with a £1 entry fee for the balloon release.

Harrow:
The Harrow-on-the-Hill May Day festival this Sunday will feature family-friendly fun with music, food, dancing, children’s theatre, a guided walk, and a Hill exhibition.

It will be held from 12 to 3.30pm on The Green, with food stalls from restaurants Blues, Incanto and The Connoisseur, and sweet treats from Miriam’s Munchies.

Home bakers can show off their skills by entering the Great Harrow Hill Bake Off competition.

Meanwhile, there will be maypole dancing and a vintage car show at the Headstone Manor May Day festival on Monday from midday to 5pm.

Attractions include a petting zoo, falconry, archery and Victorian entertainers, with tickets costing £3.50 for adults and £1.50 for children aged four to 12.

Borehamwood:

Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council is holding a pre-festival event on Saturday, May 2 from 11am to 4pm at All Saints church Piazza, in Shenley Road.

It will include stalls, live music and entertainment throughout the day.

Barnet:

Friends of the Barnet Countryside Centre are hosting a dawn chorus walk on Sunday from 6am.

There will be a collection for RSPB and hot drinks will be available afterwards.
