A film-maker is urging cinema lovers to help him create a science fiction film on a budget of just four figures.

Patrick Ryder, of Rayners Lane, hopes to build on funding of more than £1,000 for Human, his biggest project to date.

The award-winning filmmaker hopes to encourage people to donate to the project, which will involve buying parts to create a robot suit and hiring equipment and locations.

He said: “I am a keen believer in talent in Harrow and Harrow as an area for film locations and the film community.

“I’ve never made a sci-fi film before, so even though we’ve already raised more than £1,000, any extra money will just help make it better.

“Although I’ve made a science fiction film because of the cost, I think we can make a good go of this and I can see it being a really good film.”

In 2010, Mr Ryder won best film at the House of Commons' Film the House competition, attended by representatives from BAFTA, Universal and Paramount.

Then in 2014 he also won several major film competitions including the Art for Freedom contest run by Madonna, who personally selected Mr Ryder’s £40 film as the winner and gave the team $10,000 for charity.

With the support of donors, he hopes Human will be just as successful.

He said: “I guess the thing that will attract people and make them want to donate is the fact they can be a part of something.

“We’ve offered some rewards depending on how much you donate, but if the film wins awards like some of our others it would be amazing for people to say they helped towards that.

“I genuinely believe in Harrow as a creative community and hopefully, with projects being funded and created by Harrow-based filmmakers, it can help develop and nurture the local talent.”
