A convenience store has had its licence revoked following a review.

On Thursday, April 16, Harrow Council’s licensing sub committee heard evidence that Food and Wine Convenience Store, in High Street, Wealdstone had breached its licensing conditions, with police being called on numerous occasions to deal with incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Officers from HM Customs and Excise had also visited the premises, seizing tobacco and alcohol products for which no UK duty had been paid.

Following a meeting with police in January, the licensee was given the opportunity to improve the management on the condition the shop pledged to adhere to several conditions, including engaging with the police.

However, inspectors later visited the premises and found that the owner was still breaching the conditions in relation to CCTV, failing to have a till guard or time delay safe installed and failing to keep any till receipts.

Representations made by the owner were taken into account but the panel decided to revoke the licence.

Harrow Police Licensing Officer said: “This store had a major impact on the anti-social behaviour in the area.

“This should send a strong message to shop owners and licensees to comply with their licence conditions and the law, or risk losing their livelihood.”
