Morris dancing, a beer festival and wheelbarrow races were on offer as people celebrated St George’s Day.

Hundreds of people flooded Pinner on Sunday for food, fairground rides and an array of beers at the annual St George’s Day celebrations.

Festivities kicked off with a bell ringing show, before a parade marched up the High Street to the war memorial followed by the mayoral car and the district scouts and police cadets.

Teams of two later took to the streets for the wheelbarrow race, which was started in 1963, along with a new wheelbarrow jousting tournament that has hosted this year for the first time.

Niamh McEnery, from Pinner, said: “It was lovely, such a mix of ages and something for everyone - a great local and heritage event for all.

“It was busy even though it was cold, and the wheelbarrow race was really good fun.

“Businesses such as Carpentier were out on the High Street really getting into the 'festival' atmosphere. “We are sure it will grow year on year now Pinner is growing with young families.”

Celebrations were rounded off with a performance from the Merrydowners Morris dancers along with live jazz at the Queen’s Head pub.

Giuseppe Marasco, of Oxfam Pinner, said: "It was very busy in the shop. Events like this really do boost the high street and make Pinner an attractive destination."
