I agree with your reader (Letters, February 12) who said something has to be done about youth disorder in the Cardonald area among others.

I was on my way to visit an elderly relative in Tannadice Path recently and while driving in Berryknowes Road was confronted by about 20 teenage boys and girls at the junction of Paisley Rd West and Lammermoor Avenue.

I could clearly see some of the girls blatantly drinking alcohol while standing underneath the CCTV camera - which was pointing in the opposite direction. The others were screaming abuse and intimidating those brave enough to pass by. This was around 8pm.

They later congregated not far from my aunt's house, clearly the worse for drink and causing havoc in the street. No wonder the residents are afraid to the leave their homes. My aunt didn't want me to call the police for fear of recriminations.

When the police focus on one area the offenders just move on to another. Surely something can be done about this. There is no discipline and obviously no respect for property or members of the public. B M Glasgow Give them a sporting chance

WE need to get real about sport and our 2014 bid for the Commonwealth Games.

Our athletes are spending a fortune just to try to compete in their chosen sport, with little or no help from the powers that be.

My own child is soon to compete, representing her country, at a cost £150 for the privilege, and this is only one competition. For the the next competition, between entry fees, travel and accommodation, there will be no change out of £300-400. It cost approximately £2000 per year to continue in this sport.

Let someone else host the games, and use our money to sponsor our athletes. NAME and address supplied Ads aim to make you smile

Your reader Martin Davidson made a very valid point in his letter on Saturday about advertising and the cries of sexism across the land with the new Rustlers ad.

When did the people of this country lose the ability to laugh? Have we watched so many depressing EastEnders episodes we can't spot humour anymore?

As a woman, I found the ad quite funny (I only wish it was a big hunky bloke getting undressed!), just as I did with the I am man' burger advert and the Irn-Bru advert with the cuckoo.

If people really feel the need to complain about adverts, start with the anti-smoking one where the fish hooks are placed into people's mouths. It's disgusting, and is more likely to put people off their dinner than off their fags. S M Glasgow Stage set for park gem fight

What do the citizens of Glasgow have to do to convince the council that bandstand in Kelvingrove Park is an important part of our heritage?

People far and wide, both famous and of no apparent consequence (except at the ballot box), wish to see it in public use again without any more pussyfooting around.

Get your act together, cooncil', join forces with the local friends' group, who have huge public support, and do something to push this project forward!
