BOARDS BECKON: Carol Smillie, the TV presenter, is considering a career in the theatre. The former model said yesterday she would like to appear on stage in the comedy, Mum's The Word.

Smillie, 43, a Glaswegian, is to have talks with Robert C Kelly, the Scottish theatre impresario, with a view to her stage debut in her home town next year.

Her only previous acting appearance was in Brookside, but she said she liked the idea of theatre if it did not mean being away from home for weeks at a time. "I went to see Mum's The Word and I thought 'That's me - I've done that and had the baby sick down the front of me'." Rise of the Scots raj: Page 15
