YOUNG designers are being given the chance to create their own unique sari designs as part of a national competition.
Organised by Bridging Arts with sari recycling fashion label Sari UK Ltd, people with an eye for fashion are being challenged to design a sari reflecting the experience of British Asians.
Winning designs will be showcased at a major exhibition of saris at Brent Museum, in Willesden, this autumn and form part of a national archive of new sari designs.
Sital Patel, of Sari UK Ltd, said: "A pattern can say so much. For young British Asians like me, it can be hard to find a style' that reflects just how we feel about living in the UK today.
"We're hoping to find patterns that speak for thousands of us, who perhaps lack our parents' geographical and physical experience of India, but who nonetheless feel a strong emotional attachment to our heritage."
