More than 800 children found out how their food makes its way from fields and meadows to their dinner plates.

A total of 882 children in Harrow have discovered where their food comes from by going on Farm to Fork Trails since the Tesco Eat Happy Project was launched one year ago.

Since March last year, children have been taking part in the educational trails at Tesco’s Harrow Superstore and Pinner Extra after research showed that less than ten per cent of children hit their target of five portions a day of fruit and vegetables.

The trails, which are designed to bring children closer to the food they eat, include a visit to an in-store bakery to make bread and to the cheese and fish counters.

As part of the days, children have the opportunity to touch, smell and taste foods they might not have tried before including anything from exotic fruits to smelly cheeses.
