A man who was caught with a stun gun in his bedroom has been jailed and fined.
Manoj Sivarayan, of Brinkburn Gardens, Edgware, was sentenced to three years in jail and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.
On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, police searched Sivarayan's house in relation to another matter for which he had been arrested.
Officers found the stun gun but Sivarayan claimed it was not his, but in a room which he sublet to a man who was out of the country.
Sivarayan said he had seen it before and that he had been shown it by the man, and had touched it to try and get it to work.
But he was charged after officers spotted discrepancies in his testimony.
Detective Constable Claire McGlynn, of Brent CID, said:” I hope this sentence sends the message that police and the courts takes this type of crime extremely seriously and that people caught will face a lengthy term in jail.
“Illegal firearms, real or fake, have no place in our society and those who think otherwise will face the full force of the law if found in possession.”
