An MP who was forced to repay more than £1,000 in ‘inaccurate’ mileage claims has pledged to donate future claims to charity.

Harrow East MP Bob Blackman was ordered to pay £1,006.20 earlier this year after a 13-page report following an investigation by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority concluded he submitted a total of 734 "inaccurate" claims.

After paying the money, the MP has announced he will donate money from mileage claims made from now until the General Election to St Luke’s Hospice Harrow.

Money that is claimed for between now and May will go towards the charity’s overall fundraising effort for their annual ‘Jail and Bail’ fundraising event.

Mr Blackman has been fundraising to make £1,000 ‘bail’ money and will be joining other fundraisers at Pinner Police Station to spend an afternoon at Her Majesty’s Pleasure in aid of the cause.

He said: “While I disagree with their decision I have paid the money back, and as a sign of goodwill I will be donating any money from mileage claims from now until the General Election to St Luke’s Hospice Harrow.

“I have supported the hospice for many years so I am only too happy to add some extra fundraising.”

So far, nine people have signed up to be held at Pinner Police Station on Friday, March 27 as part of St Luke’s Hospice's jail and bail 2015 event.
