Arrests were made and cars towed away as part of a community day of action.

Police were out in force across the borough today as part of a monthly ‘day of action’ initiative.

The action day, known as Operation Secure Streets, kicked off today with an early morning drug bust at a house in The Broadway, Wealdstone.

After getting a warrant to search the home earlier this month, officers and police dogs seized a large quantity of drugs and thousands of pounds in cash and a gun during the raid.

A suspected drug dealer was arrested.

Borough commander Simon Ovens said: “How dare anybody bring a firearm and drugs into Harrow.

“Anyone behaving like this can expect the most robust police action and I welcome the arrest today in bringing this offender to justice.”

Harrow Times:

Elsewhere in the borough, officers carried out road safety checks, with nine people stopped for motoring offences.

Three cars were towed away after officers found they were being driven without insurance.

A second man was arrested later in the day who was wanted for criminal damage, while officers also found a bag of stolen meat in an alleyway and discovered heroin in woodland in Harrow on the Hill.

Other agencies joined the police, with firefighters providing fire safety advice to homes and Harrow Council officers carrying out checks on social housing tenants in Grange Farm Close.

A total of 58 households were given crime prevention advice, with 250 leaflets given out, and 100 light timers distributed to residents.

Harrow Times:

Speaking to the Harrow Times earlier today, Chief Supt Ovens added: “It has been going very well this morning.

“Another great day of partnership with the local authority and the fire brigade, working together to enforce the running of legislation from drugs to traffic to housing authority work to make sure people are complying with their tenancies.

“All of this means we are keeping Harrow the safest borough in London.”
