Lawyers helped raise more than £8,000 at a mental health charity's annual fundraising quiz.

A total of six solicitors firms and one barrister’s chambers took part in last week's MasterMind in Harrow 2015 contest which was organised by charity Mind in Harrow and sponsored by the Harrow Times.

More than £8,500 was raised through the event at the Grims Dyke hotel in Old Redding, with teams raising a minimum of £1,200 as their entrance fee.

It costs the charity £1,200 to help train six volunteers to run its daily helpline for one year, while £280 can pay for an outing for up to 12 people in order to help increase their social confidence and interaction.

Scott Moncrieff was presented with the prize for most raised, after bringing in a total of £1,315 for the charity.

Team captain Corrine Singer said: “We’re so pleased we managed to raise the most out of all the teams.

“We didn’t do any fundraising events, other than bullying friends, family members and colleagues into donating to the cause.

“One of our team members did run three miles a day every day throughout December, in the cold, though.”

Team members Lisa Vaughan, Christine Deacon and Morag McNiven added: “We thought the event was fabulous – it was really well run and organised, from the refreshments and table arrangements right down to the quiz itself.

“We had a great time and are looking forward to next year already. We’ll have to fight off any one else from trying to take over our team – we’re the A-team and want to win next year.”

Safron Simmonds, deputy CEO of Mind, said: "MasterMind in Harrow raised a phenomenal £8,500 for Mind in Harrow's work to help local people who experience mental ill-health - be it depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder or suicidal feelings.

"As well as supporting our vital services such as Harrow's only mental health information helpline, the money will also help us develop new areas of work such as reaching young people, their parents and families at risk of mental health crisis.

"We are delighted at the support received from our sponsors The Harrow Times and others such as the Mental Health Lawyers Association, Blavo & Co, Nine Bedford Row & Landmark Chambers - without whom, none of this would have been possible."
