Motorists say they are angered by Harrow Council’s ‘double standards’ over parking violations.

Angry drivers have been sending photos into the Harrow Times showing council vehicles ignoring parking restrictions and laws.

Cheryl Tillman, of For2Feet, sent in a photo of a CCTV traffic enforcement car parked outside Longfield School, in Duke’s Avenue, North Harrow.

After raising the issue with the council, she was told that enforcement vehicles and “similar purposes council vehicles” are permitted to park on restrictions, however staff are instructed not to cause an obstruction.

She said: “It’s hypocritical – enforcing traffic violations whilst parked on double yellow lines themselves.

“It totally sets a double standard, I can't think of any other jobs given such exemptions. Even emergency services can only break the rules if they are attending an emergency.”

Elias Violaris also sent in a photo of a purple Harrow Council van in Augustine Road, after his wife was recently issued with a parking ticket by Harrow Council for parking on a curb in almost the exact same place.

He said: “I was angered by the double standard shown by a Harrow Council themselves who did the exact same thing on the exact same road. It seems that there was one rule for them and another for the general public.

“Harrow Parking Enforcement has yet to formally respond to the challenge of this parking ticket.

“All I have received is an auto-reply email saying that the case has been put on hold until further investigation and they reserve the right to respond within 56 days, which is a crazy amount of time to consider this complete nonsense of a parking ticket.”

A Harrow Council spokesman said: “Council vehicles are permitted to park on restriction areas such as yellow lines and footways when they are required to do so for official purposes.”
