An adult education centre held an opening ceremony at its new home in Kingsbury.
Learning centre The Institute has been relocated from its long established base in East Finchley to the heart of Kingsbury, situated in Masons House, to continue founder Henrietta Barnett’s ethos of ‘education for all.’
The building’s three floors were filled with displays exhibiting the work of students from The Institute, including photography, sculptures, and paintings as well as staff and teachers who were on hand to assist and welcome visitors.
Guests from the community were entertained by performers including the Shree Muktajeeven Swamibapa Pipe Band and resident Meena Raj - a trained Bharatanatyam Indian classical dancer and teacher.
Chief executive Greville Waterman said: “I am delighted with the number of local residents who are present today and the local community has been welcoming, encouraging and supportive.
“This great turn out is testament to the hard work of The Institute’s community outreach officer, Rubena Jafery, who organised the event and has been instrumental in establishing partnerships in the local community and encouraging local residents and businesses to be a part of the future of The Institute in Kingsbury.”
