Community members were praised for their volunteer work in a ceremony hosted by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

Volunteers from Brent and Harrow were presented with certificates at a ceremony held in City Hall, London, for their tireless efforts to help their communities as part of Boris Johnson’s Team London volunteering programme.

Valerie Lay was recognised for her 40 years of being an active member of her residents association, 35 years of running holiday play schemes for young people and also her volunteering with Stonegrove Estates Youth Project, which runs between Harrow and Barnet.

A huge number of volunteers from across the borough were invited to the event, which also included an opportunity for the Mayor to hear from representatives of businesses, public bodies, and faith leaders, in addition to cultural and community groups.
