A Holocaust survivor marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by taking part in a remembrance project.
Gena Turgel spoke at Stanmore Synagogue as part of the 70 Days for 70 Years Project on Saturday January 24.
Participants in the worldwide project receive a book of 70 essays to be read, one each day for ten weeks, to remind people of the experiences faced by those in concentration camps.
MP Bob Blackamn, who attended the event at the London Road synagogue, said: “It has been 70 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and accounts from survivors like Gena Turgel demonstrate just how important it is us to never let what happened to the millions of innocent people who were tortured and exterminated be forgotten.
“I encourage all constituents to mark this milestone and to join members of my community in the fight against prejudice and intolerance.”
The MP will also join congregants at Stanmore Baptist church at the weekend for further commemorations.
