Volunteers can sign up to help protect primary school pupils from abuse.

After the NSPCC launched its Childline Schools Service for primary school children, it is now calling on more people in Harrow to volunteer to go into schools and deliver assemblies and workshops to tackle abuse or neglect.

Volunteers will need to dedicate two days a month for a minimum of one year, with vists at varying times between 9am and 3.30pm, from Monday to Friday during term time.

Schools service volunteers must be 16 or over and will be provided with all the training and support required for the role.

ChildLine area coordinator for West London, Ria Charlton, said: “By talking to children in an age-appropriate way we hope to achieve a massive reduction in child abuse by preventing it before it starts. But we can’t do it on our own – we need more people from Harrow to volunteer to go into schools and help us to protect even more children.

“So far our volunteers have spoken to more than 2,019 children across the borough but we need more volunteers to help us reach all 9 to 11 year olds in the 52 schools in Harrow.”
