A college has moved to Kingsbury after a century serving its old community.

Adult education college The Institute, which was previously based in East Finchley, made the move to Mansion House, Kingsbury Road this month.

Arts courses, which begin on Friday, will be the first to move to the new premises, while other classes will continue to be held at Bishop Douglass School in Hamilton Road, East Finchley until September.

Evening classes currently held at the Archer Academy will not be affected for the rest of the academic year.

Greville Waterman, chief executive of The Institute, said: “The decision to make the move from our heartland has not been taken lightly. The Institute has served the community of Hampstead Garden Suburb for more than 100 years.

“We have looked at all possible options in the area but despite our best efforts and several false hopes, it has proved impossible to find suitable and affordable premises in the immediate vicinity. Masons House represents a new beginning for the Institute and ensures its survival.”

An opening ceremony will be held later this month to commemorate the move.
