A suspected brothel was shut down following a raid by police and immigration officers.

Officers found three Romanian woman staying at a flat in Claremont Road, Wealdstone.

All three women said they had been in the UK since June this year and were paid cash in hand, but had been looking for work in the past month.

Police had been given a tip-off about the property being used as a brothel following complaints about anti-social behaviour in the surrounding area.

Sergeant Simon Fretwell said: “We’re very pleased we have been able to shut down this brothel.

“We received information from people in the community and we were able act quickly on that intelligence and take the appropriate action.

“For us it is important to react to information and concerns people have. By closing this brothel down it will have a knock on effect and hopefully reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.”

Planning officers from Harrow Borough Council also inspected the property and found it was an unlicensed shared house.

It will now shut down and the landlord could face a fine for the change of use from being a residence to a brothel.

No arrests were made at the property but all three women were warned by immigration officers that if they were found again out of work they may be removed from the country.

The raid was part of a day of action by police, immigration officers, council officers and trading standards in Harrow town centre and Wealdstone.
