A grandmother who has spent 20 years volunteering for good causes said she “wouldn’t have it any other way”.

Rosa Samuels, of Glendale Road, Edgware, began helping out at the twins and triplets group at Norwood’s Kennedy Leigh Centre, in Hendon, in 1994.

The 78-year-old now spends an hour and a half every Wednesday entertaining babies and toddlers at the group, singing songs, putting puzzles together and bouncing in the ball pit.

She “absolutely loves” twins and triplets – so was overjoyed when her daughter-in-law gave birth to Jamie and Louie on Christmas Day three years ago.

Mrs Samuels, who has six grandchildren, said: “It gives me so much joy helping out – I don’t even see it as volunteering. I adore it.

“The children are so wonderful and it’s so much fun. It’s a lovely atmosphere. What was great was that I was able to see my twin grandsons when they came to the group, too.

“It’s just like working in a nursery. I often say I should have taken it up as a career.”

Mrs Samuels, who lives with her husband, Reg, has been commended for her efforts over the years and more recently was awarded Norwood’s Star Award from Israeli Ambassador Daniel Taub.

Every year, she also organises a charity fair at Yeshurun Edgware Synagogue, in Fernhurst Gardens, Edgware.

The most recent fair last month raised nearly £900 for various charities across London.

She added: “I love helping out – I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
