People will be able get information about HIV and how to get tested for free as part of a national week of action.

Harrow Borough Council and the borough’s director of public health have thrown their weight behind National HIV Testing week, which will end on Saturday.

Throughout this week there will be a number of information events at locations across Harrow where people can get tested for free and information available about the condition.

On Wednesday, November 26, and Friday November 28, Harrow council will be holding information events at the civic centre, in Station Road.

On Tuesday November 25 there will be information event at Stanmore College, in Elm Park, from 12pm to 3pm.

Finally St George’s shopping Centre, in Harrow Town centre will also be hosting an information stall from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, on Friday November 28.

Director of Public Health for Harrow Dr Andrew Howe said: “We are delighted to be working in collaboration with all our local providers for HIV testing in support of the National HIV testing Week, including having the opportunity to work more closely with direct community groups.

“It is important that people are aware of the importance of early diagnosis of HIV to enable them to get earlier treatment and stop the risk of passing the virus onto others.”

People can also get free and confidential testing is available through home testing kits www.tht.org.uk, directly from their GP, local contraceptive and sexual health services.
