An MP has heard how his fundraising is helping two charities after completing his third triathlon of the year.

Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas has raised £1,300 for Harrow Law Centre and Parkinson’s UK by completing the events, which involve swimming, cycling and running.

Last Friday, he visited the law centre with its director Pamela Fitzpatrick and the chairman of the Parkinson’s Disease Society, Ray Turner.

The law centre's lawyers help people with problems ranging from benefits to housing.

Meanwhile, Parkinson's UK is a charity close to Mr Thomas's heart, as his father was diagnosed with the condition.

He said: “The money will fund some of their monthly meetings and activities, provide advice to carers, and run trips out for suffers of the disease."

Mr Thomas said he was likely to do another triathlon, possibly in London.

But asked if he missed his early morning bike rides, he added: “Not in the winter. But I want to get back into it in the New Year.”
