An adoption charity is urging members of the Muslim community to come forward to help give children a loving home.

The Coram-Harrow adoption partnership will be holding an event with Harrow Central Mosque as part of National Adoption Week to encourage more couples to adopt.

Coram’s managing director of adoption, Jeanne Kaniuk says adopters are needed from a wide range of backgrounds to match the racial and cultural backgrounds of children awaiting adoption.

She said: “We believe that children are most likely to thrive in families which reflect their own background.

“In England today there are over 6,000 children awaiting a new adoptive home, and sadly most have experienced neglect or abuse in early life.

“Adoptive parents who are committed to helping children feel happy and secure can help them to regain their trust in adults, and form loving, stable attachments.

“Coram is a long established children’s charity and adoption agency with a record for recruiting adopters for children from a wide range of ethnic and faith groups and we hope this event will strengthen our ties with the Muslim community in Harrow and beyond.”

The charity has been providing adoption services for Harrow Borough Council since 2009.

The event will take place on Friday November 7, from 2.15pm to 3.30pm, at Harrow Central Mosque, in Station Road.

Those interested in attending the event can book a place by emailing events@coram.org.uk or calling 020 7520 0317.
