The vicar of St Michael’s Church in Bishop Ken Road, Harrow Weald, may well be excited about the plans for the demolition of her church hall, (“Vicar sings praises of new housing scheme”, Harrow Times, October 16) but we can assure you that her neighbours are not.

The Reverend Jody Stowell says that “it is important to adapt to the needs of the community” but that does not include the church’s closest neighbours. We are about to lose the quiet, open ground providing peace and security at the rear of our house and have it replaced by a street of houses. The road with the six houses will be at the end of our garden and we will be subjected to the noise of traffic. In addition, the view of trees will be replaced with the end wall of a town house.

This is not an altruistic reach into the community, but a desire to maximise profit.#

What do you think? Let us know here.

The church is selling its land to finance the demolition and adapt its own church building instead of replacing the church hall.

The ASRA Housing Group is “making the most efficient use of the space” — which is a euphemism for squeeze as many houses in as possible to make the maximum amount of money.

The church is quietly confident that its plans will go ahead, but we would like to see the scheme laid to rest when it comes before the planning committee.
