A man arrested at an airport in connection with the murder of a Pakistani politician has been released.

The update comes as part of the investigation into the murder of Dr Imran Farooq, who was attacked outside his home in Green Lane, Edgware, and died of multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head in September 2010.

Police say the 54-year-old, who was arrested at Heathrow Airport, on June 24, 2013, has been released and no further action will be taken following investigations made while he was on bail.

They say they are still working with the Pakistani authorities to try and find Dr Farooq’s killers.

Officers are still keen to speak to Moshin Ali Syed, 29, and Muhammed Kashif Khan Kamran, 35, both Pakistani nationals who left the UK on September 16, 2010.

Both were living in the Stanmore area at the time of the politician's murder.

Dr Imran Farooq, a father-of-two, was a founding member of Pakistan’s third largest political party the MQM, but fled to the UK in self imposed exile in 1999.
