Harrow Borough Council launched a new 'community champions' scheme aiming to encourage more people to volunteer.
The scheme will replace the previous Neighbourhood Champions and aims broaden its membership to other parts of the community such as youth groups and schools.
At a meeting this evening council leader Cllr David Perry called on the champions from across the borough to share their ideas on how to expand the scheme and how to make it better for the whole community.
The conference of more than 200 also heard from Harrow Police borough commander Simon Ovens and Fire Brigade borough commander Richard Claydon.
