Hospice supporters jumped on their bikes to help raise more than £10,000 for charity.

More than 100 people rode around Harrow Recreation Ground yesterday for the annual Pledge 2 Pedal ride in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.

Cyclists as young as five took on either a 15-mile or 30-mile course to raise money for the running of the hospice in Kenton Grange.

The youngest participants were a group from Yoga Dynamix aged between five and 14.

Harrow rider Virendra Solanki took on the 30-mile course. He said: “I was part of a team with Mitesh and Amit Kapadia called the Road Runners and we raised over £1,000.

“We were really pleased to complete the challenge and satisfied in knowing it was for a good cause.

“I would definitely tell people to take part next year as it is for a good cause and highly enjoyable.”

Caitlin Hicks, also from Harrow, said: “I decided to take part as the route is local. It was great to have accomplished something before midday.

“If anyone is thinking of taking part next year, I would say just train but most of all enjoy it. I have supported St Luke’s in the past by donating goods to the North Harrow St Luke’s shop.”

Pam Russell, director of fundraising for St Luke’s, said: “It is wonderful to see so many people of all ages and from all sections of the community coming together to raise funds for their local Hhspice.

“We rely on the support of community for over 70 per cent of our funding, and every penny raised will make a real difference to our patients and their families.”

St Luke’s next big event will see supporters walk over hot coals and broken glass at The Case is Altered Pub in Pinner, on November 4.
