An organisation supporting unpaid carers has been recognised for its work with teenagers who look after loved ones.
Harrow Carers has been awarded the London Youth Quality Mark at Silver Level for its support and engagement with young carers in the borough.
The organisation is the first in the borough to receive the status.
The quality mark is designed to show councils and young people the organisation provides a high standard of service for community.
Ben White, children;s support service manager, commented “It is privilege to see the commitment of the staff and the incredible work achieved with Young Carers recognized.
“Our drive is to support these young people through what can be a challenging time.”
Earlier this year the Harrow Times reported fears from some services users of the organisation about the future of its youth project.
Harrow Carers estimates there are more than 24,000 people in the borough providing unpaid care for loved ones or neighbours, and up to 1,000 are believed to be below the age of 18.
