A Gaelic football club has paid tribute to one of its players who died after falling from a moving minicab.

Pádraig O’Dea, 26, died on Monday morning after falling from a minicab in the early hours of Sunday morning in Rayners Lane.

Mr O’Dea, originally from Kilmaine in Ballinrobe, county Mayo, had lived in London for the past two years and played for GAA team, Kingdom Kerry Gaels, in Ruislip.

Club member Shaun Howard said: “Kingdom Kerry Gaels sadly announce the tragic and untimely death of our esteemed club mate and friend Pádraig O'Dea.

“Padraig was held in high regard by everyone in the club; one of life's true gentlemen and characters, he was a very dedicated member of the senior team panel for the past couple of years, winning the senior Championship, senior league and Conway Cup with us in 2013, which was a source of huge pride to him.

“To Pádraig's mum and dad Gerry and Teresa, his brother Gearoid and his wider circle of family and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy at this sad time.

“Please remember them all in your prayers. Rest in Peace Pádraig, from all your friends at KKG, you will be missed but always remembered.”

Police were called to Alexandra Avenue, at the junction with Clitheroe Avenue, in Rayners Lane, at 1.05am by London Ambulance Service.

Paramedics treated a man at the scene who had received life-threatening head injuries after falling into the road.

Officers investigating believe he was part of a group that was close to a Renault Traffic minicab parked outside Dominos Pizza on Alexandra Avenue.

The vehicle then drove away but after a short distance the driver realised the tailgate was open and a man was rolling on the road behind the vehicle.

The cab driver returned to the scene and the injured man. No arrests have been made.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and are calling for anyone with information to get in contact.
