Families are gearing up to take part in a sponsored cycle of up to 30 miles in aid of a hospice charity.

Supporters of St Luke’s Hospice are preparing for the annual Pledge 2 Pedal event on Sunday, October 12.

Hundreds of people take on a route of either 15 or 30 miles starting at Harrow Recreation Ground.

Last year the event raised more than £8,000 to go towards the running of the hospice, which cares for people with cancer or other serious illnesses.

Helen Pote, 44, of Harrow, will be taking part. She said: “I really wanted to take part in Pledge 2 Pedal to thank St Luke's for the care and compassion they showed to my mother at the end of her life and to make sure this vital service is there for other families in the future.

“We chose the Pledge 2 Pedal event in particular as it sounds fun and was something all the family could join in with.

“My kids, Billy and Beatrice, are really looking forward to the event and practising on their bikes around the park.

“We are doing it together as a whole family so it should be really fun.”

On the day of the event here will be activities for all the family and a chance to cheer on those taking part.

There is still time to sign up to the ride with registration costing 15 for adults, £5 for children or £35 for families.
