A new rabbi hopes to inspire the Jewish community to find out more about their faith.

Rabbi Mijael Even David was inducted into the Edgware Masorti Synagogue, in Stream Lane, during a packed Shabbat morning on September 13.

He was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, before moving to Israel to join the Kehilat Hakerem in Karmiel, Israel.

Having completed his MA in Talmudic and Halachic studies at the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in Jerusalem, he is now looking forward to his next challenge.

He said: “I am looking forward to developing the huge potential that the synagogue has to offer. We want to encourage the Jewish continuity of building of personal relationships within the Jewish tradition.

“I plan to cultivate a long term strategic programme for all ages, from Cheder to older adults, to offering something appealing for every single age group.”

He joins the congregation with his wife, Raya, and his daughter Hallel, four months.

With a BA in Jewish studies and education, she will become EMS’s educational director.

Mrs Even-David said: “I am excited to be working in this pluralistic educational environment. I have a lot to give regarding modern Israeli culture and Hebrew language and hope to enhance the Zionist identity of our youth.”
