The organiser of team taking part in a charity relay event says he wants to support to his nephew battling cancer in America.

The annual Relay for Life Harrow Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday September 6, at the Bannister Sports Centre, in Uxbridge Road, raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Marc De Jersey will be taking part in the relay for Team Jack, in honour of his nephew in the USA who was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Mum of Jack, Harriette , Mr Jersey's sister settled in Greenwich, Connecticut, with husband Rob several years ago.

Three-year-old Jack was diagnosed earlier this year and has undergone biopsies, courses of chemotherapy and endless testing to treat the disease.

Mr De Jersey said: "I am very close to my sister but myself and a lot of her friends are not able to go over there and visit.

"So we wanted to do something here to help and show our support to Harriette, Jack and the whole family.

"Before all of this I didn't know anything about cancer so I did my research and I found out about Relay for Life.

"I went to school in Harrow so have some connection with the area. The guys who organise Relay for Life were so helpful and supportive, giving me advice about how to raise money.

"They have been fantastic and it would be great to get more people out on the day to show their support."

Team Jack has 20 members and will be taking part in the relay dressed as characters from Sesame Street and the Muppets.

They are one of 18 teams taking part in the in a continuous 21-hour relay around the running track at the sports ground.

On the Saturday from 12.30pm to 5pm there will be a family fun day giving people the chance to show their support to teams taking part.

The day will include bouncy castles, steam train rides, line dancing, stall games and music.

Last year the event raised more than £50,000 for the charity with team members taking it in turns round the track.
