A man arrested in connection with the murder of a Pakistani politician has been bailed.

The 30-year-old man was arrested at an address in Waltham Forest in connections with the murder of Dr Imran Farooq in September 2010.

Yesterday he was released on bail to appear at a central London police station in November.

Dr Farooq was attacked outside his home in Green Lane, Edgware, but died of multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head in September 2010.

A five inch blade kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene.

Police say they believe he was under surveillance in the days and weeks before his murder.

Police are also keen to speak to Moshin Ali Syed, 29, and Muhammed Kashif Khan Kamran, 35, both Pakistani nationals who left the UK on September 16, 2010.

The two men were living in the Stanmore area at the time of the murder of the politician Dr Farooq.

The father-of-two was a founding member of the MQM party, Pakistan’s third largest political party, but had lived in England in self-imposed exile since 1999.

A 52-year-old man, arrested on June 2013, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder at Heathrow Airport, remains on police bail pending further enquiries.
