Children sprinted to the finish line during a sports festival which inspired people to become more active.

More than 400 took to the Grahame Park Estate, in Colindale, for Barnet Homes’ annual Urban Gamez event on Friday, August 22.

The event saw future track starts coming first in their races, winning gift vouchers and medals for their efforts.

They also took part in basketball tournaments, rugby matches and a music and DJ workshop.

Sporting organisations including Bulldogs Basketball, Saracens rugby and cheerleading club and Barnet Football Club were all on hand to provide training. Free t-shirts and drinks were given to everyone who registered for the races.

Barnet Homes contractor Lovell helped raise over £800 during a raffle draw, giving out prizes of a helicopter ride over London, vouchers and an iPad.

The event was organised by Barnet Council, Voicebox, the Nutmeg Community, Lovell, The Barnet Group and Genesis Housing.

Supported by Genesis, Nutmeg and Voicebox, it also included something for the less sporty with arts and crafts, face painting and a chill out zone.

Mayor of Barnet Hugh Rayner attended with Hendon MP Matthew Offord.

Mr Offord said: "The Urban Gamez is a great event that brings together many young people during the school holidays to take part in their favourite sport and to try a new one.

“The activities are designed to help inspire and encourage younger people to engage in a healthier lifestyle throughout the year."
