Teenagers were feverish with excitement as they ripped open their GCSE grades after months of anticipation.

Schools across Barnet are celebrating another batch of successful GCSE results, despite the national average being down.

Pupils at Queen Elizabeth Boys’ School, in Queens Road, Barnet, saw 98 per cent of pupils achieve A* to B grades.

Headteacher Neil Enright said 90 per cent of students also achieved entirely A* or A grades.

He added: “I’m absolutely delighted with our results, especially at a time they are toughing up standards.

“This is excellent news from our school once again and I am proud of all the pupils.”

North London Collegiate, in Cannons Drive, Edgware, saw 52 of its students achieve straight A* grades.

More than 99 per cent of entries were graded at A* or A.

Bernice McCabe, headteacher at North London Collegiate School, said: “At NLCS, our students are encouraged to flourish in all areas. We ensure that our girls are stretched academically by offering rigorous qualifications and by teaching beyond the syllabus - to engage students in the subject as an end itself.

“Our supportive, cohesive environment enables girls to tackle challenges with confidence.”

The Wren Academy, in Totteridge, saw 75 per cent of students achieve five A* to C grades, including English and maths.

And 94 per cent of pupils at King Alfred School, in Manor Wood, Hendon, achieved five or more A* to C grades.

Grey Whitebloom achieved five A* grades and six A grades, and will study maths, physics, history and Latin to A-level.

Ella Hohnen-Ford and Benny Knight both achieved four A*s and six As. Benny will return to study maths, politics, history and biology while Ella will study history, politics and music.

Ella said “I am very proud to have got straight As. It gives me as much satisfaction as the other things in my life that I am proud of such as my musical achievements and the fundraising activity that I love being involved in.

“I can’t wait to celebrate at Reading Festival and look forward to continuing my studies this September.”

At Copthall Girls School, in Champions Way, Mill Hill,  31 per cent of pupils achieved straight A*s and As.
