Church services and an office building blackout are some of the events to take place to commemorate the start of the First World War.

The Great War began on August 4, 1914 and office buildings across Harrow will be switching their lights off on Monday from 10pm to 11pm to mark the centenary of the outbreak of hostilities.

This will be the start of a series of events over the next four years organised by Harrow Borough Council commemorating the First World War.

Before these events take place there will be a church service to commemorate the start of the war at St John’s Church, in Greenhill, Harrow, on Sunday August 3 at 6pm.
