A woman has pleaded guilty to growing cannabis after her farm was sniffed out by a policeman who followed his nose.

Thi Xuan Tran, 32, of Lower Road, Harrow, is now in custody after pleading guilty at Brent Magistrates court last week to cultivation of cannabis.

PC Nick Perry of Harrow's Safer Transport Team was on routine patrol when he noticed a very strong smell of cannabis.

He requested help from police helicopter, which was able to detect a unusual heat source from the properties in the road using equipment onboard.

The following day officers entered the property and found 120 cannabis plants with a street value of around £120,000.

They also found the whole property had been converted into a cannabis farm with artificial lighting and the electricity meter bypassed to supply power to the operation.

Sergeant David McCarthy said: “This is a typical example of the committed front line policing that officers from Harrow Safer Transport Team and the Roads and Transport Policing command deliver.”

Tran has been remanded in custody while a date for sentencing at Harrow Crown court is set.
