Volunteers tired of rubbish being left strewn across the street have joined together to clean the borough’s litter hotspots.
The group has been formed by parliamentary candidate for Harrow West Hannah David and today more than a dozen volunteers met in Rayners Lane for the first clearing session.
It is hoped the group will meet weekly in different parts of the borough to clear rubbish from forgotten roads and side streets.
The Conservative candidate said: “Litter in the streets is something people contact us about a lot and it’s an issue people are very concerned about.
“This project is about people showing they care about their community and neighbourhood.
“I think this turnout for our first session shows people do care and they want to do their bit to make a difference.”
Armed with gloves, bags and rubbish grabbers, the volunteers toiled away in the sun, clearing an alley behind shops in Rayners Lane.
Volunteer Rosmary Lawanni, 65, of Rayners Lane, said: "I have lived in Harrow all my life and I felt I should do something to help.
“I am so fed up with how the streets are left sometimes, they are just filthy.
“I think it is important people take pride in their area and more people should volunteer to help a difference.”
