More than 100 people showed their support for a working farm that could be shut down as part of council proposals.

Campaigners who are concerned about the future of Pinner Park Farm attended the meeting at the site in George V Avenue on Saturday to meet farmers who currently work on the land.

Last month Harrow Borough Council, which owns the 230-acre site, announced proposals for the site, which include the building of new homes and creation of a country park.

At the meeting organised by the group Friends of Pinner Park Farm, which formed only 11 days ago, neighbours were able to meet farmers and hear about their work.

Group member Cllr Georgia Weston said: “The meeting shows that people want a working farm in Harrow.

“In a short amount of time the friends of group has more than 150 members, all who want the farm to stay.

“Not a lot of people will be aware there is a working cattle farm on the site and when you tell them, their opinion of a country park changes and they want to keep a farm there.

“It’s such a valuable asset to the borough.”

The Friends of Pinner Park Farm is calling for a third option from the council that keeps a working farm on the site with more access for the public.

Concerns have been raised over the plans - which currently do not include any farming on the site - threatening the 90-strong cattle heard there.

Harrow Council is still consulting online on two main proposals for the site, both of which include the restoration of historic buildings for residential use and a country park accessible to the public.

Caroline Bruce, director for environment at the council, said: “It is important to stress that no plans have been set in stone.

“It is important for us to gather a range of views about what should happen at this site, and we pleased that more than 500 people came to the consultation to give us their opinions.

“This will lead to further proposals for the site, and we will of course be consulting about those later in the year.”

Those interested in having their say on the plans have until July 22 and can do so by clicking here.
