The Mayor of Harrow praised faith-based communities when he joined worshippers observing Ramadan this week.

Cllr Ajay Maru visited the Salaam Centre in north Harrow on Monday, where he joined people breaking the fast on the second day of the Muslim holy month.

Cllr Maru, who is Hindu, spoke about the positive contribution that faith-based communities can make to society and the importance of working together.

The centre made a contribution to the Mayor's chosen charity Coram, which helps vulnerable children through adopting, therapy and health education.

The Salaam Centre aims to be the UK’s first Muslim community centre of its kind open to all to fulfill the physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs of people from all walks of life, age and gender.
