A school has been recognised for its work teaching pupils to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Norbury School, in Welldon Crescent, has been awarded a Bronze Healthy Schools London Award by the Mayor of London's office.

The recognition comes following the schools work in supporting the health of their pupils by promoting physical activity with PE Passports for all children to show off the skills learnt in lessons.

Headteacher Lou Browning said: "As a 'World in a School, Learning Together', we know that healthy, happy children learn best, and so we are delighted that our work could be recognised in the London Healthy Schools Award.

"We are already striving for silver, always looking at how we can be healthier both in what we eat and what we do."

Staff at the school are also encouraged to keep healthy setting up their own netball team, and at lunch time eat with pupils to be an example of healthy eating.

Harrow Borough Councils cabinet member for health and wellbeing Cllr Anne Whitehead said: "Supporting the health and wellbeing of children is a priority for the council.

"This is excellent news and I congratulate the students and teachers at Norbury School and also the work of the public health team for leading the way to healthy schools.

"Evidence shows that a students' health affects their achievements and schools have an opportunity to positively impact attitudes towards healthy behaviours that can last a lifetime.

"Other schools in the borough are also taking part in this initiative and I look forward to seeing more schools being recognised as healthy schools."
